Coffee and dessert trolley for Restaurant Innesto

This summer, Mieke Van Herck architects completed the 'Restaurant Innesto' project. As in all the realizations of the architect team, the extensive custom joinery is striking. But it is also a first case in product design: designing a coffee and dessert trolley.

A trolley that takes coffee and dessert around the restaurant, which, in addition to a work top, also contains storage space. On top of that, it perfectly reflects Innesto's style: that's how the briefing from chef Koen Verjans to Mieke Van Herck architects was conveyed, for the realization of a very first assignment in product design. The team designed a trolley with invisible wheels since aesthetics and functionality go hand in hand in Restaurant Innesto. In addition, the curves in the design allow the unwieldy object to move elegantly and smoothly through the restaurant. Do you also remark how a bronze handle bar runs around the trolley? It's a refined accent with a nod to the glittering details elsewhere in the interior. But it's also handy: the absence of handles prevents the trolley from hitting something or getting stuck.

The trolley was produced in a workshop in Limburg. More than one hundred parts were put together to manufacture the coffee and dessert trolley by Mieke Van Herck architects for Restaurant Innesto, 87 of which were unique milled panels in wood.
